Home-Based Care

The Dududu Drop-In Centre hosts a group of community-based care givers (CCG), trained and supported by both the AIDS Foundation South Africa and the Department of Social Development.  These individuals conduct home visits to households across the Vulamehlo municipality, identifying orphans and vulnerable children and ill persons, refering them to the appropriate social and health services.  The home-based care program is part of a greater strategy to bring health services closer to South Africans who live in remote areas or who are not able to access clinics.  Another important role the CCGs play is health education; during home visits, they teach people about HIV transmission, antiretroviral therapy, and AIDS-related illnesses.  They play a crucial role in ensuring HIV positive patients do not default on their treatment, and are well-informed about their treatment regimes.
